Pepper Spray Antidote
Common pepper spray is one of the most portable personal security tools one could use for protection, however, one would surely need to have some sort of pepper spray antidote to use should one get sprayed accidentally.
Unfortunately, there is currently no available immediate treatment or pepper spray antidote that could be applied for immediate relief (come to think of it, should manufacturers ever make one, criminals may want to get hold of it and may even laugh themselves to death should their victims blow pepper spray in their faces).
One important property of pepper spray is that it is an oil-based liquid derived from oleoresin capsicum, the substance that makes peppers hot, since it is oil, it will not dry up or get rubbed off easily.
The burning sensation could even last up to more than 30 minutes.
Once the substance comes into contact with the skin or any exposed part of the body, especially the eyes, it immediately gets absorbed and the inflammatory agent of the substance begins to inflame the capillaries and cause an intense burning sensation.
Worse, the moment the affected or contaminated part is rubbed, it will intensify the burning sensation.
Although water could be a good and always available pepper spray antidote, it would still take at least 30 minutes or more to wash away the effects of the pepper spray and does not wash away easily.
Frankly, there is no fast and easy way to get relief from pepper spray contamination, especially since people also react differently to pepper spray, which also involves their tolerance or resistance to pain.
Moreover, what could work for some, may not necessarily work for others, so the homemade pepper spray antidotes listed below may be of some help.
One of the most effective pepper spray antidotes is by applying whole milk to the contaminated area by either filling a sprayer bottle with it or directly applying it to the affected skin by immersing dipping a towel and laying the milk-drenched towel over the affected area.
The milk may provide relief from the burning sensation, but it will not remove the oil base of the capsicum substance.
